General Information

First Visit to the Studio

On your first visit to the studio, an additional 15 minutes will be allocated to your appointment time in order to allow for the completion of a registration form. During the consultation, it will be useful if you could bring a copy of your dog’s vaccination documentation and provide any information of any medical considerations or other special needs, prior to grooming your dog.

Deciding the Type of Groom Style

It’s important to discuss the type of groom you would like, whether breed standard or a pet trim to your own specification, which the majority of clients prefer. Once you have left the studio, the groom will commence with a health check and if any concerns arise as a result of the health check, these will be disclosed to you on collection of your dog. Please be advised as per the guidelines of the Pet Industry Federation, groomers should not carry out anal gland expression as this should be carried out by a qualified vet.

If there is any reason why the groom you requested cannot be carried out per your instructions, you will be contacted to discuss the reasons. The most common reason for this is likely to be that the coat is too matted, which would need to be clipped off resulting in a shorter coat than instructed. Please review the “terms and conditions” section of the website which details the de-matting policy.

All dogs should arrive and depart on a collar and lead. This is particularly important as the studio is located on a working farm.

Cleaning & Hygiene

The internal studio is disinfected every day using a pet safe disinfectant (floors, bath and work surfaces).
The grooming table and equipment are disinfected between each groom to ensure no cross contamination between dogs.
This also applies to the secure garden area outside the studio, which will be cleaned and disinfected daily.

Dogs with Special Needs

Dogs with special needs such as the elderly, puppies or those who have medical conditions will be carefully monitored throughout their time in the studio.

During the registration process, please advise if your dog has any special requirements.

Pens

All pens have anti fatigue mats, are well ventilated, have clean towels, and fresh water is provided for each dog.
At Coat King Groomers, an appointment only system is in operation ensuring your dog will only be in a pen for a short period of time, usually when waiting to be collected.
Or if there is more than one dog from a family, then for the dog’s safety they will be placed in a pen whilst the other dog is being groomed, or weather permitting roam around in the secure, outside garden.

Rest and Comfort Breaks

Outside the studio there is a safe and secure fenced area for “natural” breaks.
Dogs will be given a rest before, during and after grooming. Fresh water will be available throughout the day.
Please ensure where possible that your dog has exercised and had a natural break prior to arriving at the studio.

Nervous Dogs

If a dog is nervous or aggressive, then a muzzle will be used only as a last resort and only applied for a short period of time.
At Coat King Groomers, muzzles have been sourced that will ensure your dog can still breath, pant and drink water (if necessary), whilst wearing the muzzle.
Every effort will be made to work with your dog to gain their trust and to ensure that in time, a muzzle is not required.

De-matting

Please refer to the de-matting policy both available on-line (terms and conditions section of website), and in the studio for review.
